The Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard (1813-55) was one of the most original and penetrating religious, psychological, and philosophical thinkers and writers of the 19th century. He often communicated his ideas indirectly--ironically--in order to entice each of his readers to undertake a personal search for existential and religious truth. In collaboration with the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, the Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch is proud to announce a one-day conference, “Kierkegaard and Irony,” that will address a deep and intriguing concern within the humanities.
