Why Study a Foreign Language

Why should you study a foreign language? Because you sharpen your intellect, build practical skills, and expand your view of the world. You will discover that your brain enjoys working in many different ways. You'll find pleasure in playing with words and watching your analytical and interpretive abilities improve. Foreign languages keep the mind flexible for learners of all ages. In fact, the study of foreign languages is associated with improved overall school performance and increases your knowledge of English or your first language. Even more importantly, you'll be rewarded with new sensitivity toward other cultures, a sense of respect for others, and self-confidence. Learning a foreign language connects us with other people, places, and times through words, texts, and culture -- it's a unique opportunity to become a citizen of the world.
