Learning Abroad

We encourage our students to spend a significant period of time abroad (at least 6 months) for study and research. They compete successfully for study-abroad fellowships and grants, in particular from the Fulbright and DAAD foundations. Financial support for study abroad is available from the University's Graduate School.

We administer annual exchanges with Humboldt-Universität in Berlin and Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, where our students pursue graduate study and research while holding part-time appointments as teachers or assistants. In addition, the University of Minnesota’s Learning Abroad Center offers a variety of programs for study abroad, some of which accept graduate students.
